Herbicide Resistant Weeds

Quantitative comparison of chloroplast ultrastructure in mesophyll cells of triazine resistant and triazine sensitive Amaranthus retroflexus L. plants.

Ultrastructural comparisons by transmission electron microscopy of greenhouse-grown triazine-resistant and -susceptible A. retroflexus, collected from the same location in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, revealed that the chloroplasts of the former were larger and contained a smaller proportion (v/v) of starch but a larger proportion of stacked thylakoids and plastoglobules relative to the chloroplasts of the susceptible plants.
